Farnsworth was the owner's representative and commissioning consultant on this new women's and children's hospital in Boulder, Colorado. The site master plan and infrastructure was developed to support a full site buildout of 425,000 SF. The project encompassed a 48-acre site with 17 acres developed for healthcare facility use and the remaining 31 acres dedicated for open space.
The first phase consisted of a 10,000 SF central utility plant, a 70,000 SF physician's office building, and a 200,000 SF full service hospital. Total project cost was $78.5 million.
The initial commissioning scope covered HVAC systems, temperature controls and emergency generators. The scope was later increased to cover electrical, lighting, plumbing, acoustics, medical gases, low voltage and medical communication oversite, fuel oil and developing a training DVD library.
Boulder Community Hospital earned Silver LEED Certification, becoming the first hospital in the nation to achieve this certification. Farnsworth was responsible, as the owner's representative and project manager, to assemble and facilitate the team in order to achieve certification.
