The Michigan Technical Education Center (MTEC) building was constructed in 2004. The 290,536 SF building is a two-story facility with three-story atrium and contains classrooms, teaching shop areas, offices, conference rooms, a gymnasium, large lecture hall and common space.
Farnsworth was selected to provide retro-commissioning services to identify various opportunities for energy and demand savings and associated cost savings in dollars. Farnsworth interviewed building O&M staff, performed field inspections, observed maintenance accessibility, measured flows and temperatures in air and water systems, and documented deficiencies and issues. As a result of the retro-commissioning services provided, Farnsworth identified four major categories of energy-saving opportunities and maintenance recommendations. The project is pursuing a LEED Certified level.
