This 160,000 SF addition to an existing facility will allow the medical center to increase its capacity to accomplish research into human diseases through controlled experiments with mice. The majority of the space in the addition is for the housing of the mice, with space for general labs, offices and research.
The scope of commissioning includes design review, construction verification and functional performance testing. The systems included were animal caging/watering systems (including a robotic bedding system) building envelope, and mechanical, electrical and laboratory systems. The systems are 100 percent outdoor air and include complex supply, exhaust, laboratory hoods, and mouse housing components. DUMC has fully adopted the commissioning process as its means of procuring all new and renovated facilities.
