Farnsworth Group Selected as Commissioning Authority for New Orleans Schools
May 6, 2008
NORMAL, ILLINOIS...January 15, 2008...Farnsworth Group, Inc., one of the nation's leading commissioning and sustainable design consultants, has been selected as the Commissioning Authority for building and renovating five K-12 schools in New Orleans, LA. The firm was selected by the State of Louisiana's Recovery School District (RSD), a state-run agency that was given authority for New Orleans' lowest performing public schools in the Orleans Parish.
Farnsworth Group's building commissioning process is a rigorous quality assurance program that confirms all new building systems and components are designed, installed and operating according to the original goals of the building owner and design team. Ultimately, commissioned buildings result in safe and healthy environments with energy-efficient systems and reduced operational costs. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is providing funding for the New Orleans project and has mandated that the new schools be designed to meet the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) silver standard. The USGBC requires building commissioning be conducted to earn LEED® certification.
"This project further reinforces our reputation as one of the nation's leading experts on building commissioning," said Farnsworth President and Chief Executive Officer Karen Jensen, PE. "Hurricane Katrina left behind unimaginable devastation. However, it also has created the opportunity to rebuild a better public education system in Orleans Parish, and Farnsworth Group is proud to be a part of the team that will help ensure these schools meet the goals of RSD, the New Orleans community and its students."
Farnsworth Group, Inc., an employee-owned company, is a full-service engineering, architecture and survey firm, offering clients more than 300 professionals located throughout a nationwide network of offices including Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Georgia, Wisconsin and California.
