Harvard Allston Group Selects FGI for Commissioning Authority

April 10, 2008

DENVER, COLORADO ...JANUARY 10, 2008...Farnsworth Group, Inc., one of the nation's leading commissioning and sustainable design consultants, has been selected as the primary Commissioning Authority for the new Harvard Allston Science Complex, the first building project for Harvard University's Allston Initiative, the University's 50-year campus expansion plan in the Allston neighborhood of Boston, MA.

The Harvard Allston Science Complex will be four connected buildings built around an open center yard. It will house laboratories, shared core facilities, administrative offices, and dedicated seminar and lab space. Farnsworth Group will be conducting whole building commissioning on the complex including the building envelope, infrastructure and surrounding site. Farnsworth Group's building commissioning process is a rigorous quality assurance program that confirms all new building systems and components are designed, installed and operating according to the original goals of the building owner and design team. Ultimately, commissioned buildings result in safe and healthy work environments with energy-efficient systems and reduced operational costs. The science complex is being designed to meet the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) LEED gold standard and includes a number of sustainable design strategies. The USGBC requires building commissioning be conducted to earn LEED certification.

"Participating on this project further develops our experience as one of the nation's leading experts on building commissioning," said Farnsworth Group President and Chief Executive Officer Karen Jensen, PE. "We will add Harvard University's Allston Development Group to our extensive higher education client base that also includes Duke University, Brown University, University of California, University of Chicago, University of Alabama, Colorado College, University of Colorado, and state colleges throughout the State of Mississippi. Harvard University's Allston Development Group has hired an extensive team of experts to contribute to the design and construction of this state-of-the art research building, and we are honored to be a part of the team that will help the project meet the goals of the University and the surrounding communities."

Farnsworth Group, Inc., an employee-owned company, is a full-service engineering, architecture and survey firm, offering clients more than 300 professionals located throughout a nationwide network of offices including Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Georgia, Wisconsin and California.
